BROOKINGS The Brookings Bombers Red 13U team lost a pair of games to Harrisburg teams on Monday night at Bob Shelden Field.
Brookings lost to Harrisburg Gold 13-3 in five innings and then fell to Harrisburg MAG 13-2 in four innings. The Bombers dropped to 1-7 on the season and will play in the Cubbys Classic in Brookings this weekend.
Harrisburg Gold 13, Brookings 3 (5 inn.)
Harrisburg scored in all five innings en route to its 10-run victory.
The Tigers scored five runs in the top of the first. The first run came from an RBI double and then a run from a fielders choice made it 2-0. A run then came home on a ground out and runs from a triple and a single pushed the lead to 5-0.
Harrisburg scored another run on an RBI double in the top of the second to make it 6-0. The lead then grew to 9-0 when the Tigers scored runs on a wild pitch, a steal of home and an RBI single in the top of the third.
Brookings got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third. Tegan Jensen reached on a dropped third strike and Kort Henderson hit a single to put two runners on with no outs. Jensen scored on a wild pitch and Henderson came home on an error to make it 9-2 heading into the fourth.
Harrisburg then scored three runs in the top of the fourth. The Tigers hit a two-run triple and then a run from a ground out made it 12-2.
The Bombers scored another run in the bottom of the inning. Bennett Porter hit a one-out single but then was thrown out at second on a fielders choice from Cade Jaacks. Jaacks stole second and then scored on a single from Jensen to cut the lead to 12-3.
Harrisburg got that run back top of the fifth. The Tigers led off the inning with a walk followed by a single. Another single then scored a run and the Bombers were unable to score a run in the bottom of the inning and the game ended.
Brookings had six hits in the loss. Henderson was 2-for-3 and Jensen was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Porter was 1-for-2 and John Romsa and Mason Hegerfeld were each 1-for-3.
Cullen Torgrude pitched the first three innings for the Bombers. He gave up nine earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and five walks. Jensen pitched one inning and gave up four earned runs on one hit with no strikeouts and two walks. Henderson pitched one inning as well and gave up two hits with one walk and no strikeouts.
Harrisburg MAG 13, Brookings 2 (4 inn.)
It was 2-2 after two innings and then Harrisburg outscored Brookings 11-0 in the next two innings and the game ended due to the 10-run rule.
Harrisburg led 1-0 after the first inning. A single and two walks loaded the bases with one out. Harrisburg then scored a run on a sacrifice fly.
They added another run in the top of the second. There was a lead off walk and that runner stole second. He then scored on a single to make it 2-0.
Brookings tied the game in the bottom of the second. Porter and Jaacks walked to lead off the inning. Porter then came home on a wild pitch and later in the inning Romsa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game.
Harrisburg scored five runs in the top of the third. The first run of the inning came on a double and then a sacrifice fly made it 4-2. A run from an error and then a two-run single pushed the lead to 7-2.
Harrisburg added six more runs in the top of the fourth. They scored runs on a bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch and a ground out to make it 10-2. Two more runs on wild pitches made it 13-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Jaacks reached on a dropped third strike to lead off the bottom of the fourth but the next three batters went down one-two-three and the game ended.
The Bombers had three hits. Romsa was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Torgrude was 1-for-1. Hegerfeld was 1-for-2.
Jax Sonnenburg pitched the first three innings and gave up seven runs, four earned, on four hits with one strikeout and five walks. Owen Rounds pitched two thirds of an inning and gave up five runs on two hits with three walks and no strikeouts. Porter got the final out and gave up one earned run and no hits with one strikeout and three walks.
