BROOKINGS The Brookings Bombers Gray 13/14U team had a tough day at Bob Shelden Field on Sunday as they lost to Sioux Falls East 22-6.
The game lauded four innings and SF East scored in all of them.
SF East scored seven runs in the first inning. The first two came on an inside the park home run. They then scored runs on a steal of home and an error. A two-run single and then an RBI single pushed the lead to 7-0.
Brayden Brintnall led off the bottom of the inning with a walk for the Bombers. Kale Wieker walked as well and Brintnall stole home. Weiker then scored on a single from Liam Johnson to make it 7-2.
SF East scored seven more runs in the top of the second. They hit four-straight singles to lead off the inning and that scored one run. Another run came home on a single and then a two-run double made it 11-2. Another two-run double and an RBI single pushed the lead to 14-2.
SF East then struck for six runs in the top of the third. They scored two runs on ground outs. Two steals of home and a run from a passed ball made it 19-2. Then a run from a sacrifice fly extended the lead to 20-2.
The Bombers scored four runs in the bottom of the third. Logan Scharr and Weiker hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Johnson then hit Scharr home with a single. Weiker then stole home and Collin Andrew scored on a wild pitch to make it 20-6.
An RBI single and steal of home in the top of the fourth made the final 22-6.
Brookings had six hits in the loss. Johnson was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Brintnall was 1-for-1. Weiker was 1-for-2 and Scharr and Shinji Numata were each 1-for-3.
The Bombers are now 0-3 on the season.
