The store, which has a drive-through and a caf, serves only the finest roasted coffee, uniquely handcrafted beverages and a wide variety of eats and treats, according to a news release from the company.

The Ziggis Coffee owned by the Minors in Sioux Falls is more utilitarian compared to the Brookings location, which employs approximately 30 people.

In the Sioux Falls location, we dont have a caf its just drive-through, Michael Minor said. New experiences, new fun, and really looking forward to that.

His ties to the area are extensive. He said he grew up on a farm thats a 15-minute drive south of Brookings, and graduated from South Dakota State University in 2017 with a degree in ag economics. Hes currently working at a job managing marketing risk for Midwest farmers, and he and his wife have three young children.

Thats what I went to college for and just had a passion for coffee, so this has been a nice way to get back into the community, he said.

The new Ziggis Coffee is part of a new residential and business development on the north side of Trail Ridge Road just before its intersection with South Main Avenue. The store is a little over 2,000 square feet in size and is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Overall, the chain has more than 100 locations in 22 states, and was founded in 2004.

Minor said he was approached by Mills Property Management.

They were putting up a nice building on the southwest side of Brookings, he said. I always told them that if I was going to build a coffee shop in Brookings, this was the spot I wanted. They just happened to be doing this building here. The timing worked out well kind of the place, the timing and everything lined up just the way we wanted it for this to come to fruition.

In closing, Minor said he and wife have high hopes for their new venture in Brookings.

We cant wait to be back and be a part of the community, he said. Were really excited for the opportunity, and hopefully we can get some people to try us out and some of the different options that we weve got compared to some of the other people in Brookings.
