SIOUX FALLS The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U team dominated a doubleheader against Sioux Falls East on Wednesday night.
The Bombers won game one 12-1 in five innings and then took game two 16-1 in three innings. It was the third-straight double-digit win for Brookings and the Bombers will play Sioux Falls East again in Brookings on Sunday. That game will be played at 3:30 p.m.
Game 1: Brookings 12, SF East 1 (5 inn.)
The Bombers scored in every inning in game one and did not give up a run until the fifth.
Brookings scored one run in each of the first two innings. Delton Brownell walked to lead off the game and then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He then scored on a Beau Thompson ground out to make it 1-0. Hayden Smidt was hit by a pitch with two outs in the second. He advanced to second on a balk and stole third. Then Lincoln Damm hit Smidt home with a single to make it 2-0.
The Bombers added two more runs in the third. Brownell walked again to lead off the inning and then scored on an error. Derek Jordan reached on that error and then scored on a Lucas Kahler single to make it 4-0.
Brookings pushed two more across in the fourth. Hudson Vincent reached on an error to start the inning and made his way to second. He advanced to third on a dropped third strike and then a Damm single sent him home. Damm would score on an error to push the lead to 6-0.
The Bombers fully pulled away in the fifth with six runs. Thompson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and then both Jordan and Kahler walked to load the bases. Kuddyer Baugher and Vicnent then each drew bases-loaded walks to score two runs. Griffin Streich then hit a two-run single and Smidt hit an RBI single to make it 11-0. The final run of the inning came when Streich scored on a passed ball.
SF East loaded the bases up with no outs but was only able to score one run and the game ended.
Jordan pitched a complete game for the Bombers. He gave up one earned run and two hits with 12 strikeouts and five walks.
Game 2: Brookings 16, SF East 1 (3 inn.)
The Bombers scored 12 runs in the first inning and then cruised to the win in three innings.
Thompson led off the game with a single and then Jordan reached on an error and Kahler walked to load the bases. Baugher and Smidt then each walked to score two runs and an RBI single from Damm made it 3-0. A two-run single from Warner Carroll and Damm scoring on a wild pitch made it 6-0.
Carroll would then score on an error and Landon Mosley scored on a passed ball to make it 8-0. Jordan hit Jaxson Neuharth home with a sacrifice fly and Kahler hit an RBI single to push the lead to 10-0. Kahler would score on another error and then Streich hit an RBI double for the final run of the first inning.
SF East scored its lone run of the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first.
Brookings then scored four more runs in the second. Damm walked to start the inning and then Neuharth was hit by a pitch with two outs to put two runners on. Damm scored on an error by the shortstop and then Jordan hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 15-1. The final run of the game for the Bombers was from a wild pitch as Jordan scored.
SF East had two baserunners in both the bottom of the second and the bottom of third but they were unable to score and the game ended due to the 15-run rule.
The Bombers had eight hits. Jordan and Carroll were each 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Kahler was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Baugher, Smidt and Damm were each 1-for-2 with an RBI. Thompson was 1-for-1 and Streich was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Neuharth had an RBI without a hit.
The Bombers had three pitchers in game two and they each pitched an inning. Kahler gave up one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts and three walks. Smidt gave up no runs or hits and had a walk and no strikeouts. Neuharth gave up no runs or hits and had a strikeout and a walk.
