David Zeman of Brookings earns alumnus honor from Louisiana State University

At a Louisiana State University campus ceremony on April 24, David Zeman, DVM, PhD, DACVP, of Brookings was named the LSU School of Veterinary Medicines PhD Alumnus of the Year.

Zeman completed his PhD in the Department of Veterinary Pathology at the LSU SVM in 1986, mentored by his Major Professor Dr. Don Roberts and Department Chair Dr. Harold Casey.

He was cited for his decades of work as a veterinary diagnostic pathologist, researcher, and administrator; as well as state and national leadership roles in advancing the discipline of diagnostic laboratory sciences.

Upon the completion of his training at LSU he joined the SDSU faculty, where he eventually became head of the Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Department, and director of the South Dakota Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory.

He retired from academia in 2013 and was named SDSU professor emeritus. He is currently the executive director of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians.

The AAVLD accredits veterinary diagnostic labs across North America and works to promote quality and timely diagnostic services to ensure healthy animals, healthy people and a secure food supply.
