Bandits swept in doubleheader in Brandon

BRANDON The Brookings Bandits were swept in a legion baseball doubleheader on Tuesday night against Brandon Valley.

The Bandits lost game one 11-10 and then fell 10-1 in the second game. Brookings is now 2-2 and hosts a doubleheader with Sioux Falls East on Wednesday, starting at 5 p.m.

Game One

Brandon Valley 11, Brookings 10

Brandon Valley scored a run on a fielders choice in the bottom of the seventh to complete a six-run comeback as the Bandits led 10-5 heading into the fifth inning.

Brookings led 6-2 after the first inning. Tre Christopherson led off the game with a walk and Jase Bauer walked as well with one out. Christopherson scored after Bauer stole second and then Bauer came home on a Plummer single. Nolan Wagner ran for Plummer and scored on an error to make it 3-0.

Tane Friedrich came to the plate next and hit one over the left field fence for a two-run home run. Three-straight walks then loaded the bases and a fielders choice from Christopherson scored another run. An RBI double and RBI single from Brandon Valley in the bottom of the inning made it 6-2.

Brandon Valley cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third. They had runners reach on a single and an error and then both runners scored on a single to make it 6-4.

Brookings would then stretch the lead to 10-4 in the top of the fourth. Tyson Antonen hit an RBI single and Bauer scored on a passed ball. Antonen would then score on a balk and Ryan Lockrem hit an RBI single.

Brandon Valley hit an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-5. They then scored a run on an RBI double in the fifth to make it 10-6. Then a two-triple, an RBI double and an RBI single tied the game in the sixth and allowed Brandon Valley to score the game-winning run in the seventh.

The Bandits had seven hits in the loss. Friedrich was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Lockrem was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Antonen was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Christopherson and Plummer were each 1-for-3 with an RBI. Bauer was 2-for-3.

Wagner got the start on the mound for the Bandits and he pitched five innings. He gave up six runs, four earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Cooper Schneider pitched an inning and gave up five earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Antonen pitched in the seventh inning and got two outs and gave up no hits with one walk.

Game Two

Brandon Valley 10, Brookings 1

Brookings had just one hit in the second game.

Brandon Valley got the scoring going with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. They then scored runs from an RBI single and a two-run single in the third to make it 4-0.

Brookings scored its lone run of the game in the top of the sixth. Ryder Anderson walked and then advanced to second on a passed ball. He then scored on an error to make it 4-1.

Brandon Valley then scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Two runs from a double and two runs from an error made it 8-1. Then a two-run double pushed the lead to 10-1. Wagner was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh but the Bandits then went down one-two-three.

Wagner had the only hit for the Bandits and he was 1-for-2.

Bauer pitched the first four innings and gave up four earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and six walks. Lockrem pitched the next two innings and gave up six runs, four earned, on three hits and had one strikeout and four walks.
