Brookings Bombers Red goes 1-2 at Pizza Ranch Tournament

WATERTOWN The Brookings Bombers Red 13U team went 1-2 at the Pizza Ranch Tournament in Watertown over the weekend.

The Bombers are now 1-4 on the season and will play a doubleheader against Watertown in Brookings on Friday starting at 5 p.m.

Saturday

SD Outlaws 12, Brookings 1 (4 inn.)

The Bombers led 1-0 at the end of the top of the first but were unable to score the rest of the game and lost via the 10-run rule.

John Romsa walked with one out in the top of the first and advanced to second on a Mason Hegerfeld single. Weston Diers then hit Romsa home with a double to make it 1-0.

The Outlaws scored four runs in the bottom of the first. The first run came from a wild pitch and then a two-run single made it 3-1. They then hit an RBI single to make it 4-1 heading into the second.

The Outlaws added three more runs in the second. They scored a run on a ground out and then an RBI single made it 6-1. Then a run on a wild pitch pushed the lead to 7-1.

Two more runs in the third made it a 9-1 lead for the Outlaws. They scored runs on a ground out and a wild pitch. Then an RBI single and a two-run inside the park home run in the fourth ended the game.

Brookings had three hits. Diers was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Owen Rounds and Hegerfeld were each 1-for-2.

Watertown 10, Brookings 0 (4 inn.)

The Bombers lost in four innings again and this time they were shutout.

Watertown scored three runs in the second to break a 0-0 tie. The Arrows scored runs on a single, an error and a fielders choice to make it 3-0.

Five more runs in the third made it 8-0. Two runs scored on an error and then a run from a wild pitch and a two-run single pushed the lead to eight.

The Arrows then scored two more runs on a single in the fourth to end the game.

Romsa had the lone hit for the Bombers and he was 1-for-2.

Sunday

Brookings 16, Harrisburg Gold 1 (3 inn.)

The Bombers finally got the offense going in the third game of the weekend with a 15-run win in three innings. The Bombers drew walks 18 times in the victory.

Brookings scored seven runs in the first inning. Romsa scored a run with a ground out and then Hegerfeld hit an RBI single to make it 2-0. Diers then scored on an error and then three more runs came home on an error to make it 6-0. Jax Sonnenburg came home on a wild pitch to make it 7-0.

Harrisburgs lone run of the game came on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the second.

Brookings then added six runs in the bottom of the second. Hegerfeld hit an RBI single and Diers scored on an error and Hegerfeld came home on a ground out to make it 10-1. Bennett Porter then scored on a wild pitch and the Bombers scored another run on a bases-loaded walk. Sonnenburg scored on a wild pitch to make it 13-1.

The Bombers ended the game in the third with three more runs. Tegan Jensen hit an RBI single and then Porter scored on a Sonnenburg ground out. Cade Jaacks was then walked with the bases loaded and that ended the game due to the 15-run rule.

The Bombers had four hits. Hegerfeld was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Jensen was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Romsa, Jaacks and Sonnnenburg each had an RBI without a hit.

Cullen Torgrude pitched the first two innings and gave up an earned run and no hits while striking out four batters and walking six. Sonnenburg pitched the final inning and gave up one hit and had two strikeouts and no walks.
