Brookings boys 4×800 relay team sets state meet record

SIOUX FALLS The Brookings track and field team had one relay team come in first and set a meet record on the boys side and had one individual winner on the girls side on the first day of the Class AA State Track & Field Meet at Howard Wood Field on Thursday.

Boys

The team of Jon Kahler, Ernest Ting, Shane Harming and Trevin Lounsbury won the 4×800 relay with a time of 7:48.27. Owen Hoppe, Blake Kennegieter, Bergan Tetzlaff and Gavin Anderson came in 19th in the 4×100 prelims (46.24).

Alex Wainman came in ninth in the javelin with a throw of 159 feet. Bergan Tetzlaff came in 11th in the same event (158-00).

Girls

Kennedy Ronning won the pole vault with a jump of 12 feet. Ronning also just missed out on qualifying for the 100 meter dash final. She finished in 10th place in the prelims (12.89).

Kendis Sackreiter came in second in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet and 7.75 inches. Clara Delbridge and Logan Smidt finished in 13th (34.07.00) and 24th (32-03.00), in the same event, respectively.

Kalla Foerster, Kaylie Kuehl, Sophia Schmit and Isabel Overby came in 12th in the 4×800 relay (10:06.66). The relay team of Nevaeh Strohfus, Grace Vostad, Ava Petterson and Hadley Devine came in 15th in the 4×100 relay (51.50). Tessa Connot Devin, Ella Miller and Kuehl came in 14th in the sprint medley relay (4:30.71).
