Kenneth Michael Mike Lundeen, a longstanding public servant and beloved family man, passed away May 14, 2025, after battling early-onset Parkinsons disease for 26 years. He quietly left a blueprint for persevering through it all.
Born on June 9, 1948, in Omaha, Nebraska, Mike had a deep connection to South Dakota, with his parents, Kenneth G. Lundeen and A. Ardelle Tuchscherer, both longtime residents of Brookings. Mike was a proud alumnus of Brookings High School, where he was a three-time letterman in wrestling and graduated with the Class of 1966. He continued his education at South Dakota State University, where he earned his degree in 1971.
Following his education, Mike embarked on a career in public service. He gave four decades of his professional life to the State of Nebraska, beginning with the universitys Ag Econ department and then with the Department of Economic Development, retiring as a research analyst.
He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 51 years and a Huron native, Gail Hollarbush. He is also survived by his brother, Jon G. Lundeen. Mike was a proud father to his sons, Jon H. Lundeen and his wife Kari, and Kenneth H. Lundeen and his partner Jess Rajewich. He greatly enjoyed his role as grandfather to Colin Ludvik (Kinley Bowles), Reid Lundeen, and Ellis Lundeen, and as great-grandfather to Samson Ludvik.
