SIOUX FALLS The Brookings softball team fell to 11-6 on the season as the Bobcats lost to Sioux Falls Jefferson 7-3 on Thursday night.
Brookings trailed 4-2 through four innings and then the Cavaliers scored three runs in the fifth to put the game away.
The Cavs led 1-0 after the first inning. Macy Bryant led off the bottom of the inning with a triple. She then scored on a Tya Devericks ground out.
Brookings answered with two runs in the top of the second. Tess Burns was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. She then scored on a one-out double from Layla Erickson. Ramsie Hinricher followed with a double of her own to send Erickson home and make it 2-1 Brookings.
However, Jefferson got both runs back in the bottom of the inning. Rayna Reisdorfer walked to begin the inning and Brooklyn Herrera followed with a single. Reisdorfer scored on an error and Herrera scored on a sacrifice bunt from Bella Sorum to make it 3-2.
SFJ doubled its lead in the fourth. Herrera and Johnson had back-to-back singles with one out and then Herrera scored on a single from Sorum to make it 4-2.
Devericks led off the bottom of the fifth and reached on an error. Peyten Krull then grounded into a fielders choice but there was an error and she reached safely. Whitney Portner hit both runners home with a double and then scored on a Herrera ground out to make it 7-2.
Brookings scored one run in the seventh to make the final 7-3. Kendal Linstad hit a single to lead off the inning and then advanced to second on a ground out. Kalla Foerster then hit a two-out single and Linstad came home. Morgan Norgaard reached on an error to put two runners on but Kymber Buys grounded out to end the game.
Brookings had six hits as a team. Foerster was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Hinricher was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Erickson was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Linstad was 1-for-1. Buys was 1-for-4.
Burns pitched the first five innings for the Bobcats. She gave up seven runs, five earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Ella Pysk pitched the final inning and gave up no runs and no hits.
The Bobcats will host Sioux Falls Lincoln on Friday at 2 p.m. in their regular season finale.
