Brookings County Museum set to open for summer

The Brookings County Museum in Volgas city park will open for the season on Memorial Day, May 26.

The museum will then be open seven days a week, including Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m. through Labor Day, according to Shirley Deethardt of Aurora, president of the Brookings County Historical Society. The society operates the countys six-building museum complex, which first opened in 1968.

Featured this season will be the highlighting of the museums most recent historical items related to Brookings County and the area, Deethardt said. This includes the museums growing archives section and its extensive record of obituaries of local and area residents. The obituary listing is prepared annually by the Brookings Area Genealogical Society.

Admission to the museum is free.

Special group tours can be arranged by calling 605-827-2303.
