Firefighters undertake training missions in Brookings

Brookings firefighters practice forced-entry exercises Tuesday evening at an empty house scheduled for demolition.

Several houses near the intersection of Seventh Street and Campanile Avenue are being torn down to make room for an apartment complex. Clark Drew Construction and investment group Sixth St. Development LLC invited the Brookings Fire Department to use the vacated structures for training.

The training focused on forced entry, including cutting holes in walls and breaking down doors abilities essential to firefighters who might find themselves rescuing trapped people in burning building.
