Church hosting blood drive in Brookings on May 22

BROOKINGS St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the Community Blood Bank will hold a community blood drive on May 22 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. at St. Thomas More, 1700 Eighth St. S.

The public will have an opportunity to donate blood to help local patients in need and assist in preventing summer blood shortages in the community. Donors can schedule an appointment by logging onto cbblifeblood.org, choosing events, and selecting May 22nd on the calendar or call us at 605-331-3222. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged. All who donate receives a $15 gift card to Dairy Queen as a thank you gift.

Summer is an unpredictable time when it comes to blood usage. With so many summer activities going on, people taking summer vacation and traveling more, as well as an increase potential for trauma, blood supplies can be depleted very quickly based upon the situation, said Ken Versteeg, executive director of the Community Blood Bank.

It only takes 30 minutes to provide life to three patients in the local area. We are asking donors to consider taking the time to ensure we avoid a summer blood shortage by giving blood St. Thomas More Catholic Church on May 22nd.

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Bring an I.D. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating.
