BROOKINGS Seventy-five to 100 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday afternoon for the Brookings Marketplace development.
When construction is finished, the shopping center will be home to Target and Aldi a retailer and a grocer, respectively along with a Kwik Star gas station/convenience center, the second one in Brookings, and potentially another tenant. Ryan Companies, the Minneapolis-based developer, expects work to wrap up sometime in 2026 on the 18.53-acre property thats just north of Sixth Street east of its interchange with Interstate 29.
The development is the culmination of 10-plus years of efforts by the city to bring new store options for residents living in and around Brookings.
