SIOUX FALLS Michelle Huh from Brookings is the recipient of the Leo Crawford Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year. Junior Achievement of South Dakota awards the scholarship annually in memory of Leo Crawford, a former member and chair of the Junior Achievement of South Dakota Board of Directors and a true friend and supporter of Junior Achievement.
Huhs outstanding accomplishments in high school include active involvement in organizations such as Strings Attached small ensemble, National Honor Society, orchestra, theater, Math Club, and Eco Club. Her dedication to her community shines through her volunteer work: introducing instruments to fourth graders, performing for fundraisers, playing piano at senior living facilities, and helping with after-school programs.
In her scholarship application, Michelle credits Junior Achievement with shaping her understanding of ethical decision-making and its role in her future career.
She shared, The aspect of Junior Achievement that had the greatest impact on my life was the lesson on moral decision-making during my junior year Junior Achievement Day. A criminal defense attorney in Brookings led us through a series of moral questions, challenging us to think critically about our choices and the values that guide them. The experience made me reflect deeply on my principles and how they influence the decisions I make in both my personal life and future career. His questions prompted me to consider situations where right and wrong arent always clearly defined, and that having a strong moral compass is essential not only for personal integrity but also for building trust and making a positive impact.
We are proud to recognize Michelles personal and academic achievements with the Leo Crawford Scholarship, said Kayla Eitreim, president and CEO of Junior Achievement of South Dakota.
The $500 Leo Crawford scholarship is awarded to a South Dakota high school senior who has participated in a Junior Achievement program, has demonstrated leadership ability, and has actively participated in his or her community through activities, volunteering, and/or work experience.
Junior Achievement provides hands-on experiences to over 55,000 students across South Dakota. JA programs are delivered by community volunteers who present a curriculum about money, careers, and business ownership while sharing their personal and professional experiences to help prepare students to be successful after graduation.
