BROOKINGS South Dakota State Universitys School of Communication and Journalism has once again earned reaccreditation from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. The prestigious distinction affirms the schools excellence in both its undergraduate programs in advertising, journalism and public relations and its online Master of Mass Communication program.
The council is the premier accrediting body for journalism and mass communication programs worldwide. Its rigorous, peer-reviewed evaluation process assesses whether programs meet the highest standards in curriculum, faculty quality, assessment of learning and professional and public service.
Fewer than 120 programs globally hold this accreditation.
SDSU has maintained accreditation continuously since 1948, making it one of the councils original 32 accredited programs and demonstrating a long-standing commitment to academic excellence.
The recent reaccreditation underscores SDSUs ongoing dedication to student success, faculty expertise and curriculum relevance in a fast-paced and digitally driven media world.
Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications accreditation is the gold standard in journalism and mass communication, said David Earnest, dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It illustrates our talented faculty provide our students with a superlative education built upon the professional skills, competencies and ethics that todays media and communications industries expect. Once again, the School of Communication and Journalism is a national leader in the field.
All of us at SDSU are pleased that the council recognizes the ongoing commitment to student success and academic quality by the faculty and staff of our School of Communication and Journalism, added Dennis Hedge, provost and vice president for academic affairs. The schools academic programs have a long-standing history of excellence and impactful contributions to the state and region.
