Brookings splits another doubleheader at Bob Shelden Field

BROOKINGS The Brookings baseball team split another doubleheader on Wednesday night as the Bobcats went 1-1 against Watertown at Bob Shelden Field.

Brookings won game one 8-1 and then the Arrows took game two 11-1 in six innings. Brookings is now 11-15 and will host a doubleheader against Harrisburg on Friday. The first game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

Game 1: Brookings 8, Watertown 1

The Bobcats struck for eight runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back in game one.

Tre Christopherson and Cooper Schneider led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Jase Bauer was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Winston Plummer hit a ground ball but there was an error by the third baseman and Christopherson scored. Schneider and Bauer then scored on a Friedrich single and Plummer came home on an error to make it 4-0.

The Bobcats added two runs in the fourth. Christopherson led the inning off with a single and then advanced to second on a Bauer single. Plummer was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Jay Harris and Nolan Wagner were then each walked to bring home runs and make it 6-0 heading into the fifth.

Brookings scored two runs more in the fifth. Jude Meendering, Christopherson and Schneider all walked to begin the inning. Meendering scored on a Bauer ground out and Christopherson scored on a Plummer sacrifice fly to push the lead to 8-0.

Watertown scored its lone run in the top of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk.

Brookings had nine hits. Friedrich was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Bauer was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Christopherson and Schneider were each 2-for-3. Meendering was 1-for-3. Plummer had two RBIs without a hit. Wagner and Harris each had one RBI without a hit.

Tyson Antonen pitched the first six innings and a third. He gave up one earned run on eight hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Ryan Lockrem got the final two outs and gave up one hit. He had one strikeout and one walk.

Game 2: Watertown 11, Brookings 1 (6 inn.)

The roles were reversed in game two as the Arrows controlled things from the second inning on.

Watertown scored five runs in the second. The Arrows hit back-to-back two-run singles and then an RBI single made it 5-0.

The lead was extended to 8-0 in the third. The Arrows hit a double followed by a single. An RbI single then made it 6-0 and then a two-run triple made it an eight-run game.

Watertown made it 10-0 in the fifth. The Arrows scored a run on an RBI single and then another on an error.

Brookings avoided the 10-run rule in the fifth with a run. Maxten Jensen hit a single and then made it to second on an error. He then came home on a passed ball to make it 10-1.

However, the 10-run rule struck in the sixth inning. The Arrows scored a run on an RBI single and then Brookings was unable to score in the bottom of the inning.

The Bobcats had seven hits in game two. Schneider was 2-for-3 and Lockrem was 1-for-1. Friedrich, Jensen and Christopherson were each 1-for-2 and Plummer was 1-for-3.

Bauer and Schneider each pitched three innings. Bauer gave up eight earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Schneider gave up three earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and two walks.
