‘No’ to Noem rally in Madison

Former Gov. Kristi Noem will deliver the commencement speech at Dakota State University on May 10.

DSU students and Madison residents who oppose her being honored in this way and who oppose her treatment of people as our secretary of Homeland Security will gather for a peaceful protest on Washington Avenue in Madison, between Second and Ninth Streets on Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m..

Members of Brookings Area Indivisible, along with other citizens of Brookings and Sioux Falls, will be there to show support for DSUs graduates, regardless of their nationality.

Participants may bring their own signs with human rights-related themes. Examples include: Stop Inhumane Treatment of People; Lets Respect All Humans; Protect International Students; Protect Free Speech on Campus; and Uphold Due Process.

There will be no formal program or speakers. Rather, the Madison group asks that we let our signs and our presence be our statement.

This is yet another opportunity for us to stand up for democracy, human rights, and civility. Find us on social media and sign up for the carpool to the event by going to linktr.ee/Brookings_Area_Indivisible and clicking the social media platform that you prefer to use.
