Cuts will lead to a brain drain in the United States

The slashing of research and grant monies to our universities and institutions (ie NIH etc) will cause a brain drain in the USA.

This will occur because students who have been admitted to universities as graduate students are being notified their admittance is in jeopardy due to actual or potential loss of grant funds which support graduate study and research.

What do these students do? They contact universities in foreign nations and are accepted into their graduate programs. The brain drain in the USA will occur as these students decide to remain in those countries because they enjoy the lifestyle, enjoy relationships, get married and/ or have job offers.

Another frightening present day issue is they realize institutions such as NIH or other such companies where they would excel as a researcher in the USA have no assurances of being able to function or offer job stability due to not knowing if or when they will have grants, departments or funding suddenly eliminated.

Thus, ask yourself why would these new researchers and knowledgeable individuals return to the USA? Result? A brain drain in the USA.

Another brain drain will occur in the USA due to the loss of foreign students who come to the USA to study in our graduate or undergraduate programs and remain here to work.

They will not come due the uncertainty of their safety. Again, ask yourself why would these foreign students who want to be educated, perform research in graduate school and, perhaps desire to become a researcher as a USA citizen even come to the USA. Result? A brain drain in the USA.
