US Highway 81 project near Madison begins next week

MADISON Beginning on May 5, lane closures are scheduled to be installed on U.S. Highway 81 near Madison and will be in place through August.

This reconstruction project extends from 220th Street to 1,100 feet north of Ninth Street in Madison. Lane closures will be adjusted as asphalt milling and paving crews move to different locations along the length of the project.

Flaggers will be stationed on both ends of the lane closure with a pilot car guiding traffic through the work zone. This reconstruction project includes new asphalt, culvert work, and new turn lanes at 223rd Street, 225th Street, and 228th Street in Madison.

Motorists should be prepared for delays. Drivers are asked to be aware of construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes. Please slow down through the work zone.

The prime contractor on this $12.1 million project is Duininck Inc. of Prinsburg, Minnesota. The overall project completion date is Oct. 17.
