Jackson Prouty wins Arbor Day 5K in Brookings

BROOKINGS Jackson Prouty, of Elk Point, showed flashes of his high school prominence in winning Prairie Striders Arbor Day 5K on April 25.

Prouty, a varsity cross country runner for the Huskies in his 2022 senior season, won the 5K in 18:19.5, beating Tim Fryer, 46, of Hendricks, Minn., by five seconds. Third place went to Colton Trooien, of Toronto, in 18:55.4.

The first-place female was Ivy Fasching, of Brookings, with a time of 22:01, finishing 15th overall. Second-place female was Kati Merkley, of Brookings, with a time of 22:42.5. Third-place female was Heidi Ostrem, of Volga, with a time of 23:08.5.

There were 111 participants.
