WATERTOWN The Brookings softball team took down Watertown on Tuesday night as the Bobcats offense continued to score runs with ease.
Watertown went up 1-0 in the second inning and then the Bobcats outscored the Arrows 12-3 in the final five innings.
Watertowns opening run came on an Alexa Brown RBI single. The Bobcats would answer with four runs in the top of the third.
Keisha Cushing opened the third with a single. She then scored on an error. Another error put Kalla Foerster on and then both her and Morgan Norgaard scored on a double from Lexi Erickson to make it 3-1. Erickson then scored on an error as well and it was 4-1 heading into the fourth.
In the top of the fourth Brookings scored three more runs. Grace Romsa and Cushing hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. They both scored on a Norgaard triple and then she came home on an error to make it 7-1.
The Bobcats put the game away in the top of the fifth with five more runs. Ramsie Hinricher hit a solo home run with one out. Addy Bortnem then doubled and scored on a Romsa single. Cushing walked to put two runners on and then a two-out Norgaard single made it 11-1. The final run of the game for the Cats came on an RBI single from Foerster.
Alayna Dettman and Kynslee Johnson each hit RBI singles in the fifth for Watertown and the final run of the game for the Arrows came on an error.
Brookings had 11 hits as a team. Norgaard was 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Erickson was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Foerster was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Hinricher was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Bortnem and Romsa were each 2-for-4. Cushing was 2-for-2.
Tess Burns pitched four and a third innings after getting the start for Brookings. She gave up four runs, two earned, on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Ella Pysk pitched two and two thirds innings and gave up no runs and one hit with five strikeouts and no walks.
The Bobcats improved to 4-3 with the win. Brookings plays at OGorman on Thursday at 4 p.m.
