ELKTON An Elkton man is facing charges following a Friday night crash involving his vehicle and farm machinery north of Elkton that left him injured.
Jose Martinez, 23, was taken by Elkton Ambulance to the emergency room at Brookings Health System with unknown injuries, Brookings County Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring wrote in a Monday news release, adding that alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash. Martinez was arrested after being released from the emergency room.
Sheriffs Sgt. Cody Sunderland told the Brookings Register that Martinez was released from the Brookings County Detention Center early Saturday on a personal recognizance bond. He is facing three misdemeanor charges:
- DUI 1st
- No drivers license
- Open container
The crash, which occurred at 8:59 p.m. Friday on state Highway 13 near 216th Street, involved Martinezs 2008 Honda Civic and a Case sprayer being driven by Hayden Stein, 35, of Elkton, Sebring wrote.
Martinez was northbound when he encountered the sprayer, which was turning, and the resulting collision damaged the Civic.
Total damage from the collision is still being estimated, Sebring noted.
The incident is being investigated by the sheriffs office.
