Sen. Liz Larson to keynote Brookings County Democrats meeting

BROOKING South Dakota Sen. Liz Larson will discuss the legislative session and funding cuts at the Brookings County Democrats meeting on April 26 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Brookings Public Library.

Larson, who is the Democratic leader of the Senate and the first woman to be elected to that post, will give an overview of the 100th Legislative session. She will talk about funding cuts that impacted state programs.

Larson represents District 10 in Sioux Falls and serves on the Senate State Affairs, Transportation and Commerce committees.

Larson returned to South Dakota after serving as a consultant to the United Nations. She spent several years as part of a management team studying gender and research portfolios for the Pacific Inclusion project. Her term was four years working in Suva, Fiji. She has a bachelors degree from the Evergreen State College and a masters from the University of Oregon. She is a South Dakota native, graduating from Lincoln High School.

The meeting is free and open to the public and will also feature an election of officers. Registered Democrats in Brookings, Aurora and Brookings and Medary townships are eligible to vote.
