BROOKINGS The Brookings baseball team picked up another doubleheader sweep on Tuesday night as the Bobcats won two games against Sioux Falls Washington.
It was the second-straight doubleheader sweep for Brookings and the Bobcats are now 6-6. The Bobcats will host a doubleheader with Brandon Valley on Friday and the first game will start at 5 p.m.
Game 1: Brookings 16, SF Washington 4 (5 inn.)
The Bobcats scored 12 runs in the second and third inning combined and that led to a 12-run victory in five innings in game one.
Washington got on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the first. The Warriors then scored a run on an error, but the Bobcats broke things open in the bottom of the inning with seven runs.
Tane Friedrich led off the bottom of the second and he reached on a dropped third strike. Jay Harris walked and Tyson Antonen hit an infield single to load the bases up with no outs. Maxten Jensen then hit a two-run double down the right field line to tie the game. Jude Meendering and Cooper Schneider followed with back-to-back RBI singles and Meendering scored on a ground out to make it 5-2. Friedrich and Harris were both hit by pitches with the bases loaded to score the final two runs of the inning.
Brookings added five more runs in the third. Schneider hit a one-out double and Tre Christopherson reached on an error right after. Schneider would then come home on an error and Harris was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 9-2. Antonent followed with a two-run double and Harris scored on an error to make it 12-2 heading into fourth.
The Warriors cut the lead to 12-4 in the top of the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles. Brookings got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Bauer hit an RBI double.
The Bobcats then ended the game with the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth and they did it in exciting fashion. Harris singled to lead off the inning and Antonen followed with a walk. Winston Plummer then came to the plate and he launched one over the left field fence and that ended the game.
Brookings had 11 hits as a team. Plummer was 1-for-1 with three RBIs and Antonen was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Harris was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Jensen was 1-for-3 with two RBIs . Schneider was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Meendering and Bauer were each 1-for-3 with an RBI. Christopherson was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Friedrich had an RBI with no hits.
Kysin Reuer pitched a complete game for the Cats. He gave up four runs, two earned, on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
Game 2: Brookings 6, SF Washington 3
Brookings scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and then held off Washington in the final two innings to earn the victory in game two.
Each team scored one run in the first inning. The Warriors scored a run on an error. Tre Christopherson singled to begin the bottom of the inning. He was then hit home on a double by Friedrich with two outs to tie the game.
The Bobcats took the lead in the third inning with two runs. Christopherson doubled to lead off the inning and then Schneider followed with a single and Bauer reached on an error to load the bases up with no outs. Christopherson and Christopherson then scored on a fielders choice to make it 3-1.
An RBI triple and an RBI single in the top of the fourth tied things up for the Warriors.
Bauer and Friedrich walked to begin the bottom of the fifth. Harris then singled to load the bases up with no outs. Plummer then hit Friedrich and Bauer home with a single and Harris scored on a passed ball to make it 6-3.
The Bobcats had seven hits. Plummer was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Friedrich was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Harris was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Christopherson was 2-for-4. Schneider was 1-for-2 and Ryder Anderson was 1-for-3.
Nolan Wagner got the start for Brookings and pitched four innings. He gave up two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Baker Hanson got the win as he pitched the final three innings. He gave up no runs and no hits and had one strikeout and two walks.
