Cossacks win team titles at De Smet Invite

DE SMET The Sioux Valley track & field teams each took home the titles at the De Smet Invite on Thursday.

The Cossack boys had 140.85 points as a team to earn the victory, while the girls had 118.53 points.

Iroquois/Lake Preston was also at the meet. The Sharks came in 10th on the girls side (26) and tied for 16th on the boys side (11).

Boys

Donovan Rose led the way for the Cossacks once again. He came in first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.22 seconds and also won the 110 meter hurdles (15.40). Carson Wosje, Jakob Guthmiller and Braden Danzeisen also came away with victories. Wosje won the 400 meter run (52.26). Jakob Guthmiller came in first in the high jump with a jump of six feet and .25 inches and Danzeisen came in first in the triple jump (41-04.50).

Brock Christopherson came in second in the 400 (53.84) Tyrus Schulz came in fourth in the 1600 (5:20.56). Mitchell Guthmiller came in third in the high jump (5-06.00).

Sioux Valley had one relay win on the boys side. Christopherson, Wosje, Mitchell Guthmiller and Brady Hiltunen came in first in the 4×800 relay (8:28.72). The relay team of Wyatt Hardt, Jakob Guthmiller, Hunter Steinhaus and Ethan Hemmestad came in second in the 4×200 (1:39.68). Hemmestad, Steinhaus, Westin Pitts and Logan Mohn came in third in the 4×100 (47.54).

The Sharks did not have an individual top-five finish on the boys side. Lucas Peskey, Ervin Carter, Aiden Query and Ben Curd came in fifth in the 4×200 (1:43.31).

Girls

Adison Renkly came in first in two events. She won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.82 seconds and won the triple jump with a jump of 34 feet and 4.25 inches. Maci Licht won the 400 meter run (1:02.38).

Lich also came in second in the 800 (2:29.31). Amari Ward came in second in the 100 meter dash (13.26) and fourth in the long jump (16-01.50). Liberty Trygstad came in third in the 800 (2:47.04) and fourth in the 1600 (5:58.65). Amya Ward came in fourth in the 400 (1:08.32).

Emma Gorvin came in third in the high jump (5-00.00) and Miley Keating came in fifth in the triple jump (30-05.50).

The Cossacks had two second-place finishes in the relay races. Amari Ward, Audrey Larsen, Kalia King and Adison Renkley came in second in the 4×100 (54.11) and Amia Ward, Amya Ward, Ava Gatzke and Talya Vincent came in second in the 4×800 (10:27.42).

Khloe Olson came in fourth in the 800 meter run for ILP with a time of 2:52.21. Hadlee Holt came in first in the shot put (37-11.00) and Bentlee Holt came in fourth in the same event (33-03.00).
