Sioux Valley dominates Parker, 20-2

PARKER The Sioux Valley softball team took it to the Parker Pheasants on Tuesday afternoon as the Cossacks came away with a 20-2 win in three innings.

The Cossacks scored five runs in the first inning. Their first run of the game came on a Amelia Jacobson single and then she scored on a Savana Guthmiller ground out. Ella Jacobsen then hit an RBI single and Avery Murano hit a two-run double to make it 5-0.

Sioux Valley followed the five-run first with 10 runs in the second. Zoe Hemmestad hit an RBI single and then scored on a Jacobson ground out. Guthmiller then hit an RBI single and Murano was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Abby Axtell cleared the bases with a double and then McKinley Schwab hit a two-run double. Guthmiller capped off the inning with an RBI double to make it 15-0.

The Cossacks pushed the lead to 20-0 in the top of the third. Kassidy Smith hit Jaycie Olsen home with a single and then Zaylee Langten scored on a throw to make it 17-0. Hemmestad, Jacobson and Morgan Lemme each hit RBI singles to make it 20-0.

A two-run triple got the Pheasants on the board but they needed to score five runs in the bottom of the third to keep the game going and didnt.

The Cossacks had 19 hits as a team. Jacobson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Guthmiller was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Murano was 1-for-1 with three RBIs and Axtell was 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Smith was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Schwab was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Hemmestad was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Lemm was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Jacobsen was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Olson and Cameron Uecker were each 1-for-1 and Langten was 1-for-2.

Smith pitched all three innings for the Cossacks. She gave up two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

Sioux Valley is now 3-3 on the season and hosts Chester on Thursday at 4 p.m.
