One-vehicle crash kills 15-year-old girl near Gregory

GREGORY COUNTY A single-vehicle crash involving two 15-year-old girls left the driver seriously injured and her passenger fatally injured 4 miles west of Gregory on Sunday.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a2001 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling east on U.S. Highway 18 near mile marker 276 when the vehicle drove onto the shoulder, which was under construction. While re-entering the roadway, the vehicle spun and entered the south ditch and rolled, ejecting the passenger.

Both occupants were airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. The driver sustained life-threatening injuries and the passenger died from her injuries at the hospital.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
