Brookings Bobcats’ bats stay hot in 10-0 victory over Aberdeen Central

BROOKINGS The Brookings softball team continued to light up the scoreboard on Tuesday afternoon as the Bobcats beat Aberdeen Central 10-0 in five innings at the Southbrook Softball Complex.

Brookings led 2-0 through three innings but then a seven-run fourth inning allowed the Bobcats to put the game away.

The Bobcats first run of the game came in the second inning. Keisha Cushing led off the inning with a single and then was hit home on a double from Ramsie Hinircher. Brookings doubled its lead in the third. Lexi Erickson walked and then came home on a steal of home to make it 2-0.

Kendal Linstad was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth. Ella Pysk followed with a double and Linstad came home. Grace Romsa pinch ran for Pysk and she scored on a passed ball to make it 4-0.

Quinn Kurtenbach reached on a dropped third strike and then scored on a double from Erickson. Kymber Buys then hit one over the right field fence and that pushed the lead to 7-0. Back-to-back doubles from Tess Burns and Cushing made it 8-0 and then the final run of the inning came on a Linstad single.

Taylee Connot was hit by a pitch with one out in the fifth for Brookings. She advanced to third on a double from Norgaard and then scored on a fielders choice from Erickson to end the game.

The Bobcats had 10 hits as a team. Buys and Erickson were each 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Hinricher and Linstad were each 1-for-1 with an RBI. Cushing was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Pysk was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Burns was 2-for-3 and Norgaard was 1-for-2.

Kinzey Grendler pitched the first three innings for Brookings. She gave up no hits and had four strikeouts and one walk. Pysk pitched the final two innings and gave up one hit and had three strikeouts and no walks.

Brookings is now 3-1 on the season. The Bobcats play at Pierre at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
