When we moved to Brookings 45 years ago, we came here partly because of the communitys firm grounding in education. SDSU provided the curriculum to train teachers in the science of education and what is required to help students succeed in becoming productive citizens.
Its that commitment to arming graduates with educational methods that help students, teachers and administrators grow progressive environments that keeps Brookings schools and its graduates at the forefront of South Dakota and national public schools.
Its also one of the reasons I support and encourage my fellow voters to cast their ballot for Cassie Juba, an SDSU Humanities, Social Sciences and Education graduate.
Cassie has spent her career grounded in education first working as part of the Great After School Place team for Brookings elementary students, followed by serving as the mentoring coordinator and program assistant with Brookings County Youth Mentoring Program, and then also as a mentor herself and as a private tutor for families before opening her own tutoring facility: PLAY Personalized Learning Adventures for Youth.
In each of those instances Cassie considered how best to address the educational needs of students who came before her. Operating her own business requires not only a commitment to meeting the needs of students and families, but also setting and balancing finances for business operation.
None of that happens without trust trust for vulnerable students in need of extra attention; trust for families searching for ways to help children succeed; and trust for the Brookings community that our schools will continue to offer the setting and means to be recognized as a place that holds education as the cornerstone for prosperity.
I trust that as a member of the Brookings School Board, Cassie Juba will keep Brookings public schools as stellar institutions grounded in success for all students.
