Vote for Specker and Tilton Byrne for City Council; Juba and Johnson for School Board

Dr. Bonny Specker is an incumbent for the City Council. Specker is a scientist, listener, data analysist, and all-around thoughtful individual.

Bonny has compassion for the community of Brookings where her family has lived for more than 30 years and their children have received their education. Specker is committed to economic development for the growth of local businesses. She understands fiscal responsibility from the variety of federal grants that she wrote, received and implemented during her time as the chair of the EA Martin Nutrition Program on the SDSU campus. Fiscal soundness for the City of Brookings is essential for the future health of Brookings.

Incumbent Holly Tilton Byrne will continue to support smart, safe, and sustainable economic development, foster a welcoming and inclusive community, collaborate on local mental health services, provide financial support to the Brookings Childcare Collaboration, and creatively find solutions for issues within the community. Tilton Byrne is a fourth-generation Brookings County resident, a human resources professional and a mom to three young children.

Teri Johnson is a thoughtful individual who believes in providing the best education possible for children in the Brookings School System in-depth and inclusive. Johnsons priority is literacy that impacts the individuals academic success, personal growth, and future opportunities. Johnson has served three years on the school board and will continue to advocate for: all students, setting goals and completing evaluations of the Brookings district, strong fiscal responsibility, and safety in the schools.

Cassie Juba will bring a background to the school board with her work with more than 300 children per year who gain essential developmental abilities through therapeutic play sessions. A graduate with a degree in education, Juba will contribute valuable problem-solving experience of evidence-based literacy approaches such as the science of reading and working with diverse learners to help them reach their full potential.
