Brookings Lions Club to serve spaghetti supper, pie auction

BROOKINGS The Brookings Lions Club will host its annual Spaghetti Supper and Pie Auction on April 5. The event will be at the First Methodist Church Community Life Center at Seventh Avenue and Sixth Street. Serving times will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with the pie auction around 6 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will support local Lions projects and various community groups. Tickets are available from any noon Lions member. Adult tickets are $10 in advance and $11 at the door. Children aged 5-12 are $5 and children under 5 are free.

During this year, the Lions, along with a grant from the Brookings Optimist Club, provided three vision cameras and printers to the three elementary schools in Brookings. Support was also provided for eye exams and glasses for income-eligible individuals, along with support to the Back-to-School school supplies backpack program. They also donated to the SDSU student Food Fight, which benefits the local food pantry, and the Boys and Girls Club along with several other groups. One of the events that the Lions have sponsored for many years is to recognize outstanding 8th grade citizens four times each school year. These students are selected by their teachers.

The local Lions Club provides free vision screenings from pre-school age children up to 18 years of age. Lions work with local schools in the area as well as the SDSU student nurses when they do screenings.

The Brookings Lions continue to live and work by their motto we serve.
