Two vehicles burn off South Main in Brookings

BROOKINGS A collision involving two vehicles caused both to catch fire on Monday morning in Brookings.

The incident occurred on 15th Street South near Seventh Avenue South at approximately 8:08 a.m., according to information from Brookings Police Department Chief Michael Drake. No injuries were reported.

The investigation has indicated that the operator of a 2010 green Jeep Compass SUV was traveling east on 15th Street South when the driver reported to be distracted by sun glare, he wrote. The front end of the Jeep struck the rear of a parked unattended 2016 black Ford F150 pickup truck.

Drake said the Jeeps front caught fire beneath its hood, which spread to the rear of the pickup, adding the Brookings Fire Department was able to extinguish the flames.
