Jean was a beautiful soul who was born on Sept. 20, 1963, to Wib and Lettie Huntley in Chamberlain, S.D. Jean attended grade school and junior high in Pierre, S.D. and moved to Vermillion, S.D., where she excelled in basketball and academics, graduating in 1982. From there she went to the University of South Dakota where she was a proud member of AZ Delta. Jean was an accounting major where she graduated in the top 1% of seniors as a member of Whos Who, Phi Beta Kappa, and Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor societies.
Jean met the love of her life, Timothy Scherschligt and they were married June 3, 1988, in Owasso, Oklahoma. When Jean was 33 years old she was diagnosed with a brain tumor that greatly affected her quality of life. Jean never let her own hardships stand in the way of showing concern and grace for others. She had the most beautiful caring soul and the most beautiful 1000 watt smile! She was truly an angel here on earth.
Jean and Tim moved to Brookings in 2005 with their cat Mr. Chubbs. Jean loved Brookings and her church home at First United Methodist Church. She was a world class baker and loved nothing more than baking cheesecakes and her famous sugar cookies for all her loved ones.
Honored to have shared her life, Jean is survived by her husband Tim, her mother Lettie, her sister Colleen (Calvin) Breske, her brothers Rob (Gelai), Hap, Chris, sister in-law Amy, nephew Dylan and niece Samantha. She adored her in-laws Don and Marlys Scherschligt, sister in-law Melody (Bump), and brother in-law Mike (Jean), all the nieces and nephews and best friend Patty.
