Ila Swenning

Ila K Swenning passed away Saturday, March 15, at Estelline Nursing and Care Center.
A funeral service will be held for Ila Saturday, March 22, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Volga, SD. Visitation will be held prior from 10-11 a.m.
Ila Moberg was born March 26, 1942, in Estelline, SD, to Wilmer (Bill) and Stella (Nystrom) Moberg. She grew up in Bruce, SD and graduated from Bruce High School in 1960. She attended General Beadle in Madison SD. She married Art Swenning on July 27, 1963, in Lake Benton, MN. To this union, three children were born Martie, Scott, and Todd.
Art and Ila owned and operated Arts Service Station and several other business ventures over the years. She sat on the Volga City Council and was very active in the community. Ila was a member of First Lutheran Church.
In 1980 Ila started the family insurance agency. She was the first female agent for Farmers Insurance in the state of South Dakota. Art and Martie joined the agency shortly after. Art amd Ila enjoyed traveling and were able to mix business and pleasure with the many different trips they won through their business.
Ila is survived by her daughter Martie (Brad) Bothun of Pierre, SD, and two sons Scott Swenning of Volga, SD, and Todd Swenning of Palm Springs, CA : seven grandchildren Eric (Melissa), Scott (Tasha) and Emily Bothun, Nicole (Nicholas) Van Roekel, Holden, Henry and Eden Swenning; four great-grandchildren Hayley (Tysan) Morrison and Brooklyn Bothun, Nickalus and Annika Bothun, a brother Mo (Deb) Moberg of Sinai, SD, and sister Charlotte Thompson of Volga, SD, several nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Art in 2003 and her sister Katy Callahan.
