BROOKINGS The Brookings Register and the South Dakota State University School of Performing Arts proudly announce that the United States Army Field Band and Soldiers Chorus from Washington, D.C., will present a free concert at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on March 31 at 7:30 p.m.
The Concert Band & Soldiers Chorus are the oldest and largest of the U.S. Army Field Bands performing components. Founded in 1946 and 1957 respectively, these two ensembles combine to present joint concerts on national tours. They have performed in all 50 states and 30 foreign countries for audiences totaling hundreds of millions.
From coast to coast, come along for a musical celebration as the U.S. Army Field Band presents, Sea to Shining Sea. Pack up the family van and hit the road behind those famous tour buses as the Concert Band and Soldiers Chorus tell enduring stories of veterans, friendships, and the amazingly picturesque, and maybe sometimes bizarrely quirky, places that make America a road-trippers dream. Through exciting music and stunning visuals, be inspired to set out on your own journey exploring our great nation while honoring all those who answered the call to serve it.
The 60-member Concert Band and 29-member Soldiers Chorus perform regularly in some of the most famous concert halls in the world, and just as often in the smallest of communities. The joining of these two ensembles allows them to offer unparalleled versatility of programming, ranging from orchestral masterworks and operatic arias to Sousa marches, jazz classics, and Broadway musicals.
In addition to their national tours, formal concerts, chamber recitals, and educational outreach, members of the Concert Band & Soldiers Chorus frequently represent the Army at formal and ceremonial functions, including the Presidential Inaugural Parade, presidential funerals, the Army All-American Bowl, and diplomatic efforts overseas.
Tickets are free, but required and are limited to six per request. Tickets may be acquired by visiting the Brookings Register, the Brookings HyVee, or the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center Box Office. For more information, contact the SDSU School of Performing Arts at 605-688-5187.
