Jackrabbits hire two for football support roles, director of football performance

South Dakota State football head coach Dan Jackson has filled two key administrative positions for the Jackrabbits football support staff with the hirings of Tyler Wrice as general manager and Ethan Beisner as director of operations.

Wrices duties as general manager will include roster and scholarship management, assisting with name, image and likeness activities, and serving as a liaison to athletics and university administration.

Im really excited to have Tyler on board as South Dakota States first general manager, Jackson said. Hes highly organized, really energetic and hes going to do a really good job for us as we continue to navigate recruiting, the transfer portal and staying ahead of the times.

Most recently, Wrice coached wide receivers and served as the college recruiting liaison at Westside High School in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a part of three Class A state championship teams (2020, 2022, 2023) and helped develop and mentor more than 30 student-athletes who went on to play collegiately.

Wrice played collegiately at North Dakota State and was a wide receiver on Bison teams that won Football Championship Subdivision national titles in 2013 and 2014.

Beisner returns to South Dakota State after spending the 2024 season as director of football operations at Sam Houston State. He previously served as assistant director of football operations and recruiting at SDSU during the Jackrabbits national championship seasons in 2022 and 2023.

That role is so important to have someone with experience who understands the university and how the program works, Jackson said. Ethan was a no-brainer for me; hell do a great job organizing and taking care of everything that isnt football.

In his role, Beisner will coordinate team travel and meals, assist with on-campus recruiting and manage other day-to-day operations of the Jackrabbit football program.

Beisner held a similar role at Central Missouri from 2017-22 and got his start in college athletics as a graduate assistant football coach at Southwest Baptist University in 2014 before adding support roles to his duties. He received both a bachelors degree in social science and a masters in athletic administration from Southwest Baptist.

South Dakota State began spring practice Tuesday and plans to hold its annual spring game on April 12. The 2025 season opener is slated for Aug. 30 versus Sacramento State.

Nathan Morris

Nathan Morris has been selected as the director of football performance at South Dakota State University.

The strength coach is integral to the development of our program and is really the right-hand man of the head coach in a lot of ways, Jackson said. Nate brings a ton of experience and Im excited about his urgency, his passion and his energy. Hes going to do big things to develop us physically.

Morris served the past three years as assistant athletic director for sports performance at Sacramento State, where he led strength and conditioning efforts for the Hornet football program and provided oversight for the remainder of Sac States 21 varsity sports.

From 2020-21, Morris worked as assistant strength and conditioning coach and sports science coordinator for Colorado State football. In that role he used cutting-edge technology to collect and analyze data and then create strategies for practice and training sessions, with a focus on working with the skill position players.

During the 2019-20 academic year, Morris was head strength and conditioning coach at Missouri Southern State in Joplin, Missouri.

He began his professional career in 2016 as a strength and conditioning graduate assistant at Midwestern State. From there, he interned at Texas in 2018, where he worked directly with the offensive and defensive lines, wide receivers and defensive backs for a Longhorn squad that went on to win the Sugar Bowl.

Morris graduated from South Alabama in 2016 with a bachelors degree in exercise science and added a masters in exercise physiology from Midwestern State in 2018. He holds certifications from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

At South Dakota State, Morris will work with a football program that has qualified for the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs 13 seasons in a row, including winning back-to-back national titles in 2022 and 2023.
