South Dakota’s congressional delegation is disappointing

This letter is to enter into the record my disappointment for the South Dakota delegation in:

  • The voting public who chose not to vote in November for democracy but voted for chaos that the Trump campaign promised (and is in place)
  • The lack of common sense and spine in our three elected officials from South Dakota’s delegation in their inability to use thoughtful rationale to stand up to President Trump, Elon Musk, and the ineligible individuals who were confirmed for cabinet posts.

I am appalled at the irresponsibility and apparent lack of acceptable ethical standards of politicians who were elected and are now creating chaos and hardship for the American citizens. The list is long. I will highlight a few of the most critical issues.

  • 1. The threat (or already decided plan) to stop Medicaid support for those citizens unable to otherwise access assessment for prevention of disease and needed health care.
  • 1A. Also, the threat to dismantle the Affordable Care Act.
  • 1B. Kennedys appointment as HHS head by one who does not believe in health promotion strategies, scientific research or long-approved effective vaccinations and fluoride in water. Why was Kennedy approved with his lack of a scientific and reasonable background?
  • 2. The continual threat to privatize or stop Medicare and Social Security that provides a safety net for aging Americans who have paid into Social Security.
  • 3. The dismantling of USAID from assisting those in need U.S. farmers and many others.
  • 4. The wide sweeping firing of governmental workers without due process. As a manager and leader, I recognize that realignment of workers needs to be done periodically, but the Elon Musk permission to send out rampant letters to let workers go without due process and reasonable review is disgusting.

I said, I could go on and on … I grew up on a farm in South Dakota that was proudly homesteaded in1910. Grandpa and Grandma worked hard on the farm, made excellent choices and decisions and were successful. My father took over the farm and continued the success. I appreciate common sense in place when it comes to the farm bill.

I am a registered nurse. I earned a PhD and had the privilege of leading and managing South Dakota State University’s College of Nursing. The BSN prepared RNs from this program are competent, confident and readily hired by all health systems. These RNs provide respectful care to all who need support and intervention for their health issues.

Obviously, I am very knowledgeable and interested in the health and wellbeing of all American citizens and follow that science with a vengeance even though I am thoroughly enjoying retirement.

What has happened to elected officials who do not demonstrate respect for others who are less fortunate? My request is to step up, provide common sense solutions to the chaos that is being created by President Trump and his sucked in followers.

What a disappointment for the USA when America has been the greatest free world in the past and is quickly losing its reputation.
