Sioux Valley’s Summer Guthmiller wins state title, two Bobcats finish in third

RAPID CITY Sioux Valleys Summer Guthmiller came in first place in the 138-pound weight class in the Girls State Wrestling Tournament over the weekend. Brookings had two third-place finishers as well.

Guthmiller pinned Lakota Techs Chloe Fire Thunder in one minute and 22 seconds in her opening match. She then pinned Aberdeen Centrals Rakyrah Wallace in 1:25 in the quarterfinals before winning a 17-1 technical fall over Tiara Faehnrich of Custer. In the championship match she pinned Pierres Kezrey Benning in 2:58.

The Bobcats had two third-place finishers in Lily Toft and Kendis Sackreiter in the 114-pound and 235-pound weight classes, respectively

Toft won a 15-0 technical fall over Pierres Avery Bendewald of Aberdeen Central in her opening match. In the quarterfinals Toft lost a 6-3 decision to McCook Central/Montroses Alexis Bryant. In her first consolation match Toft pinned Rapid City Stevens Brooklyn Smith in 3:59. She then won a 13-4 major decision over Viborg-Hurley/Irene-Wakondas Aubrey Jensen and won a medical forfeit over Watertowns Brooklyn Randall. Toft won a 1-0 sudden victory over Bon Homme/Scotland/Avons Jasmine Rueles-Hertz in the third place match.

Sackreiter won a 15-2 major decision over Claire Campbell of Viborg-Hurley/Irene-Wakonda in her opening match of the tournament. She then was pinned by Watertowns Eden Hach in the quarterfinals. Sackreiter then pinned Amelia Larson of Sioux Falls Lincoln in 1:35 and pinned Hot Springs Madison Nicolaisen in 2:52. In the consolation semifinals Sackreiter pinned Todd Countys Unique Clairmont in 3:40 and then she pinned Rapid City Stevens Tallie Brehm in 4:17 in the third place match.

Kami Erickson finished in eighth place in the 120-pound weight class. She won a 15-2 major decision over SageLynn Culley of Sioux Falls Roosevelt in her opening match. Erickson then lost a 4-0 decision to Rapid City Centrals Anna Henstein in the quarterfinals. In the consolation bracket she won an 11-3 decision over Wendi Silverthorn of Viborg-Hurley/Irene-Wakonda and then lost a 4-1 decision over Addie Sander of Custer. In the seventh place match Erickson lost a 4-1 sudden victory to Yanktons Alexis Brenden.

Bailey Tekrony competed in the 107-pound weight class for the Bobcats. She won a 17-8 decision over Aberdeen Centrals Avery Bendewald in her opening match before getting pinned by Annalee Pierson of Strugis Brown in 5:57 in the quarterfinals. Tekrony was then pinned by Danika Juhl of Garretson in 4:09.

Ramsie Hinricher represented the Cats in the 126-pound weight class. She was pinned by Rapid City Centrals Langston Huffman in 1:43 in her opening match. Hinricher then pinned Yanktons Madison Brown in 2:35 before getting pinned by Aberdeen Centrals Jasmine Maas in 3:26.
