The Flandreau and Deubrook Area girls basketball teams each won on Thursday night and advanced to their respective SoDak 16s.
The Fliers beat Dell Rapids in Region 3A, while the Dolphins topped Wessington Springs in Region 2B. In other area action Arlington fell to De Smet in Region 2B and Colman-Egan lost to Sanborn Central/Woonsocket.
Region 3A
No.1 Flandreau 58, No. 4 Dell Rapids 44
FLANDREAU Sadie Iotts 30 points led Flandreau to a Region Playoffs victory and a Class A SoDak 16 berth.
Flandreau trailed 19-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Fliers then outscored the Quarriers 14-5 in the second quarter and took a 30-21 lead into halftime. Flandreau extended the lead to 47-33 by the end of the third and then each team scored 11 points in the fourth.
Iott had 10 rebounds and four steals. Morgan Sheppard had 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Fliers.
Rory Thorson led the Quarriers with 22 points. Jersi Schultz had 12 points.
The Fliers will be the No. 13 seed in the SoDak 16 on March 6 and theyll take on No. 4 seeded Mahpiya Luta. The site has yet to be determined.
Region 2B
No. 1 Deubrook Area 65, No. 5 Wessington Springs 49
HURON A strong start and solid finish led the Dolphins to the win on Thursday night and allowed them to advance to the Class B SoDak 16.
Deubrook led 14-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Dolphins were then outscored 20-14 in the second quarter and led 28-25 at halftime. Their lead extended to 41-35 at the end of the third and then they outscored the Lady Spartans 24-14 in the final quarter.
The Dolphins shot 53.1% and were 6-of-20 from three. Mataya Gouws and Kylee Johnson each had 18 points to lead the Dolphins. Gouws also had 11 rebounds. Matte Bauman had 11 points.
The Lady Spartans shot 39.2% from the field and were 6-of-20 from three. Mariah Messmer had 15 points to lead Wessington Springs. Ashlyn Weber had 11 points.
The Dolphins had 32 rebounds and the Lady Spartans had 27. Deubrook had 13 turnovers and Wessington Springs had 11. The Dolphins were 9-of-15 at the line and the Lady Spartans were 3-of-8.
Deubrook will be the No. 10 seed in the Class B SoDak 16 on March 6. The Dolphins will take on No. 7 seeded Kodaka Area and the site of that game is to be determined.
No. 2 De Smet 64, No. 3 Arlington 49
HURON In the second game in Huron on Thursday night the Lady Bulldogs shut down the Cardinals in the first quarter and hung onto the lead the rest of the way.
De Smet led 14-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs then led 27-16 at halftime and extended their lead to 49-33 by the end of the third. Arlington outscored De Smet 16-15 in the fourth.
De Smet shot 42.4% from the field and was 5-of-21 from three. Hazel Luethmers led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points and seven rebounds. Alyssa Asleson had 19 points.
Arlington shot 28.32% from the field and was 6-of-22 from beyond the arc. Jaelyn Huntimer had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Ellisyn Vincent and Seeley Vanoverbeke each had eight points.
The Cardinals had a 40-24 advantage on the glass. Arlington had 21 turnovers and De Smet had 13. The Cardinals were 17-of-28 at the free throw line and the Lady Bulldogs were 9-of-18.
Arlington finished with a record of 13-9.
Region 3B
No. 3 Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 57, No. 2 Colman-Egan 48
MADISON Strong middle quarters were the difference between the Blackhawks and the Hawks on Thursday night.
SCW had a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Blackhawks then outscored the Hawks 15-11 in the second quarter and 15-8 in the third and led 43-30 heading into the fourth. CE outscored SCW 16-14 in the final quarter, but it wasnt enough and the Blackhawks advanced to the Class B SoDak 16.
CE shot 34% from the field and was 6-of-24 from three. The Hawks were led by Brynlee Landis who had 21 points and eight rebounds. Jolie Flatten had 11 points and Kaylee Voelker had 10 points.
SCW shot 46.2% from the field and was 5-of-17 from three. Liz Boschee led the Blackhawks with 25 points and seven rebounds. Addison Bartholow had 17 points.
The Blackhawks had a 31-28 advantage in rebounds. CE had nine turnovers and SCW had 12. The Hawks were 8-of-14 at the line and the Blackhawks were 16-of-28.
Colman-Egan finished the season with a record of 19-3.
