On Feb. 27, I attempted to send the email below to U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune using the U.S. Senate message board. The email was rejected with the notation national security threat detected. Can it be that the U.S. Senate needs a new filter program for its message board?
Dear Senator Thune,
In a letter dated June 21, 2021, sent by you to me regarding the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, you wrote, “Having witnessed the events of that day firsthand, what happened at the Capitol was not a peaceful protest. It was violent, unlawful, and fundamentally un-American. …. What happened on January 6 is reprehensible, and it is incumbent upon all of us lawmakers and citizens alike to do everything we can to prevent anything like this from happening in the future. Threats to our democracy, like the one that occurred on January 6, deserve no place in our society. Yet, when President Trump extended a full pardon to even the most violent of the January 6 rioters, you expressed only guarded concern. Your leadership position includes both powers and responsibilities. It is time for you to acknowledge your responsibilities.
