Elkton-area crash injures two drivers

BROOKINGS COUNTY Icy roads were a factor in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 14 north of Elkton on Feb. 25 that injured two people.

The crash at the intersection of U.S. 14 and 485th Avenue involved Petrona Martinez, 18, of Flandreau and Kali Grajczyk, 29, of Elkton, according to a news release from the Brookings County Sheriffs Office. Martinez was driving a 2008 Dodge Avenger while Grajczyk was behind the wheel of a 2018 Jeep Compass.

Both vehicles were traveling west on U.S. 14 when Martinez lost control on the icy road and began to spin, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring wrote. Grajczyk attempted to avoid Martinezs vehicle, but was unable to adequately brake. The two vehicles collided, causing disabling damage to both.

Both drivers were taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Brookings Health System for unknown injuries, Sebring wrote.
