Ranger Roundup: Both Pee Wee teams win state tournament

The Brookings Pee Wee A and Pee Wee C teams each won their state tournaments over the weekend, sweeping four games with Sioux Falls in the process.

Pee Wee A

Brookings 13, Aberdeen 0

The second-seeded Rangers opened their tournament with a drubbing of the Cougars.

Branch Otteson led the Rangers attack with a hat trick from the blue line. Jacob Myhre had a pair of goals, as did Luke Luvaas. Myles Anderson had two of his own. Gavin Zweibahmer, Theo Treml, Coy Friedrich and Ryker Schumacher also scored for Brookings.

Myhre had a playmaker for the Rangers and Juke Anderson chipped in a pair of assist. Credit single helpers to Luvaas, Treml, Owen Rounds, Oliver Ahmann, Max Harris, Friedrich, Myles Anderson and Zweibahmer.

Brayden Brintnall earned the shutout as Brookings outshot Aberdeen 46-3.

Brookings 3, Sioux Falls 2 (OT)

Ahmann was the hero for the Rangers, scoring the game-winner with just a minute left to play in the first overtime off a feed from Rounds.

Rounds got Brookings on the board on the first shift, but the Flyers battled back to take a 2-1 lead in the second.
Zweibahmer evened the score late in the second off a Myhre feed, and that was all the scoring until the sudden-death finish.

Brintnall was stellar between the pipes, making 26 saves as Brookings outshot the Flyers 37-28.

Brookings 3, Sioux Falls 0

Sunday was all Rangers as Brookings took it to the top-seeded and to-then unbeaten in league play Flyers.

Myles Anderson opened the scoring in the first off a feed from Juke Anderson.

Owen Rounds took it from there, scoring midway through the second off a Max Harris feed and then icing the game with 10 minutes to play on an unassisted tally.

Brintnall once again earned the shutout in net as Brookings outshot Sioux Falls 44-17.

The state champion Rangers are: Juke Anderson, Jacob Myhre, Ryker Schumacher, Luke Luvaas, Gavin Zweibahmer, Coy Friedrich, Max Harris, Myles Anderson, Theo Treml, Owen Rounds, Branch Otteson, Oliver Ahmann and Brayden Brintnall. They are coached by Jesse Rounds, Scott Anderson and Addison Ronning.

Pee Wee C

Brookings 2, Sioux Falls Flyers White 1

The second-seed Rangers earned a bye into the semifinals where they squared off with third-seeded Sioux Falls.
Despite a dominant first from the Rangers they outshot the Flyers 22-5 in the frame Sioux Falls got on the board deep into the period.

Spencer Lovseth got the Rangers to even late into the second as he banged home a rebound of a Brodie Bahe shot.
Adrian Almhjeld eventually found the game winner midway through the third as he went top shelf off a feed from Cooper Hyde to make it 2-1.

The Rangers’ stellar defense Lovseth, Joey Francisco, Knox Frericks and Liam Dierks made the lead hold up and Nash Billings came up big when he had to in net to send the Rangers to Sundays final.

Brookings 4, Sioux Falls Flyers 12U Girls 0

It was all Brookings in Sundays finale, with the Rangers sweltering forecheck keeping the puck in the Flyers end nearly the entire game.

Hyde scored a pair for Brookings and added an assist. Almhjeld found the net again, and had a helper of his own. Bahe got a goal to cap a strong weekend. Lovseth and Daniel Howey each had single assists.

Billings once again came up big in net, including stopping a penalty shot to preserve his shutout. Brookings outshot Sioux Falls 43-15.

The state champion Rangers are: Knox Frericks, Daniel Howey, Joey Francisco, Emmett Berkenhoff, Liam Diercks, Brodie Bahe, Otto Haselhorst, Cooper Hyde, Mason Nelson, Liam Nelson, Spencer Lovseth, Adrian Almhjeld, Nash Billings and Porter Vanderbush. They are coached by Josh Lovseth, Josh Linehan and Addison Ronning.

Junior Varsity

The JV Rangers split a pair over the weekend, falling at home to Mitchell before rallying to defeat Oahe on the road.

Mitchell 5, Brookings 2

The Marlins got a hat trick from Everett Morrison to down the Rangers in Brookings.

Jason Ready and Mavrick Bortnem scored for the Rangers. Connor Buckley had an assist on each goal, and Andrew Hahn and Camden Reicks were each credited with one.

Ryder Anderson made 24 stops in net.

Brookings 5, Oahe 1

The Rangers got a road win on Saturday to move to 14-3-1 in league play.

Hahn had a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Brookings offensive attack while Ready had a goal and two assists..
Thatcher Haselhorst and Carson Kludt also scored for the Rangers and Kludt added an assist.

Paxtyn Pottorff made 19 saves to earn the win in net as Brookings outshot the Capitals 33-20.

Bantam A

The Rangers swept their final two league games of the season to secure a league championship and the top seed at this weekends state tournament in Aberdeen.

Brookings 4, Oahe 0

The Rangers earned yet another shutout win as they dominated the Capitals on Saturday morning, outshooting the home team 43-4.

Ethan Foerster scored a pair for Brookings and Graham Gerlach added a goal and an assist Colin Jacobson turned in two assists. Colt VanMaanen found the net for the Rangers and Jack Lovseth had an apple.

Jon Drew earned the shutout in net.

Brookings 7, Sioux Falls 2

The Rangers capped a 17-1 season with a blowout of the Flyers.

Foerster had four assists, while Atwood Ahmann and Lovseth scored two goals each for the balanced Brookings attack.
Thor Zell added a goal and Weston Diers had a goal and an assist. Credit single helpers to Lovseth, Ahmann, Grant Horn and Tegan Jensen.

Drew once again earned the win in net as Brookings outshot Sioux Falls 35-9.

The Bantam A Rangers head to state this weekend. As the top seed, theyll face eighth-seeded Watertown at 7 p.m. Friday night in Aberdeen.

Bantam B

Brookings 7, Sioux Falls 0

The Rangers blanked the Flyers behind a balanced offensive attack.

Liam Heiberger led the way with a playmaker and Jasper Pitts had two goals and an assist. Maxx Anderson added a goal and an assist.

Blaine Zweder, Ty Harris and Pierson Rohl added goals for the Rangers, whil Harris, Jackson Hahn and Landon Schumaker had assists.

Warner Carroll stopped 10 Sioux Falls shots to earn the shutout.

The win gave the Rangers an 8-4 record in league play and the third overall seed for the Bantam B State Tournament to be played at Larson Ice Center in Brookings this weekend.

Brookings will play Rushmore at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and would advance to the state semifinal on 4:30 Saturday with a victory.

Girls 14U

Brookings 8, Oahe 0

Kloe Ziegeldorf, Jordyn Anderson, Grave Devries and Lorelei Koch each scored twice for the Rangers in the shutout win.
Ashton Otteson had a pair of assists while Devries, Anderson and Koch were each credited with one.

Ava Vaughn went the distance in net to earn the win while the Rangers outshot the Capitals 30-4.

The win finishes league play for the Rangers at 12-3-3 and sends them to this weekends state tournament in Sioux Center as the No. 2 seed. They square off with the seventh-seeded hosts at 3 p.m. on Friday.
