Brookings team claims top finish in South Dakota Regional Science Bowl

Five Brookings High School students competed on Feb. 22 at the South Dakota Regional Science Bowl.

After the morning Round Robin tournament of 10 teams, Brookings was seeded first place. That took them into the afternoon double elimination tournament with the top eight teams. Brookings went undefeated and claimed the Regional Science Bowl Champion award.

That win entitles them to an all-expense-paid trip to the Science Bowl National Tournament in Washington, D.C., in late April. Brookings High School won last year as well.

The winning team included, from left, coach Ronda Kantack, Kerrick Zhang, Waylon Lowe, Joseph Michna, Shaurya Sehgal and Grant Tellekson. In addition, Shaurya was named the second highest individual player of the day.
