The Deubrook Area and Arlington moved one step closer to the SoDak 16 on Tuesday night as each team won in the Region 2B Girls Basketball Playoffs.
The Dolphins beat Oldham-Ramona-Rutland and the Cardinals topped Wolsey-Wessington. Each team will play for a spot in the SoDak 16 on Thursday. Estelline/Hendricks season came to an end on Tuesday as the Redhawks fell to De Smet.
No. 1 Deubrook Area 78, No. 9 Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 54
The Dolphins pulled away fully from the Raiders in the second half. Deubrook led 26-18 at the end of the first quarter and then led 40-31 at halftime. The Dolphins then outscored the Raiders 27-15 in the third quarter and took a 57-46 lead into the fourth. Deubrook then held a 10-8 advantage in the final quarter.
Deubrook Area was led by Kylee Johnson who had 16 points. Mataya Gouws and Matte Bauman each had 15 points. Neely Gustad had 13 points and Zoey Molengraaf had 10 points.
Bailey Hyland had 21 points to lead ORR. Brookelyn Riedel had 11 points and Bella Malisch had six points.
The top-seeded Dolphins will play No. 5 seeded Wessington Springs in Huron on Thursday at 6 p.m.
No. 3 Arlington 49, No. 6 Wolsey-Wessington 38
A strong first quarter led the Cardinals to victory on Tuesday night. Arlington outscored Wolsey-Wessington 20-2 in the opening frame. Each team then scored nine points in the second quarter to make it 29-11 at halftime. The Cardinals then outscored the Warbirds 17-10 in the third to stretch the lead to 46-31. Wolsey-Wessington had a 17-3 advantage in the fourth but it was too little too late for the Warbirds.
Arlington shot 39.5% from the field and was 6-of-19 from three. Jaelyn Huntimer had 23 points and seven rebounds to lead the Cardinals. Ellisyn Vincent had nine points and five boards.
Wolsey-Wessington shot 31.4% from the field and was 1-of-14 from three. The Warbirds were led by Maria Nelson who had 11 points. Shea Utteccht had 10 points and six rebounds.
The Cardinals had a 28-27 advantage in rebounds. Arlington had 11 turnovers and Wolsey-Wessington had 16. The Cardinals were 13-of-23 at the free throw line and the Warbirds were 5-of-10.
Arlington will take on No. 2 seeded De Smet in Huron on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
No. 2 De Smet 53, No. 7 Estelline/Hendricks 29
It was a tough second half for the Redhawks and that led to the loss on Tuesday. De Smet led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter and 22-17 at halftime. The Bulldogs then outscored the Redhawks 31-12 in the second half.
Estelline/Hendricks shot 23.8% from the field and was 5-of-23 from three. The Redhawks were led by Ayla Texley who had 12 points. Danelyn Greene had seven points.
De Smet shot 28.4% from the field and was 3-of-16 from beyond the arc. Hazel Luethmers had 17 points and 10 boards to lead the Bulldogs. Alyssa Asleson had 12 points and seven rebounds. Brooke Jennings had a near double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
