HARTFORD The Brookings boys wrestling team had six wrestlers qualify for the state meet on Saturday afternoon as they placed in the top four of their weight class in the Region 1A Tournament at West Central High School.
Brookings came in sixth place as a team with 125.0 points. Watertown was atop the team portion with 214.0 points.
Jacob Milliron came in second place in the 132-pound weight class. He pinned Sirius Harming of Sioux Falls Roosevelt in 1:16 in the quarterfinals and then pinned West Centrals Jett Whiting in 41 seconds in the semifinals. In the championship match Watertowns Kutler Swenson beat Milliron with an 18-1 technical fall.
Mason Mathis finished in second in the 150-pound weight class. In the quarterfinals he won a 10-2 major decision over OGormans Zach Schuler and then he pinned Dell Rapids in 1:31 in the semifinals. Mathis then lost an 11-2 major decision to Sioux Falls Jeffersons Graham Wilde in the championship match.
Gabriel Stern came in second in the 175-pound weight class. Stern pinned Sioux Falls Roosevelts Hunter Lahr in 31 seconds in the quarterfinals and then won a 10-7 decision over Milbanks Tate Schlueter in the semifinals. In the championship match Kennan Sheridan won an 11-0 major decision over Stern.
Zach Hagemann finished in third in the 215-pound weight class. He won a 4-2 decision in the quarterfinals over Watertowns Ethan Wientjes before getting pinned by Dell Rapids Quinn Carr in 2:33 in the semifinals. In the consolation semifinals Hagemann pinned Sioux Falls Jeffersons Cooper Dykstra in 2:39 and then he won a 19-4 technical fall over Milbanks Hunter Reede in the third place match.
Micah Stern came in fourth place in the 120-pound weight class. In the quarterfinals he won a 13-0 major decision over OGormans Easton Scheidt and then was pinned in 2:47 West Centrals Brody Gossen in 2:47 in the semifinals. In the consolation semifinals he received a bye and then he lost a 17-8 major decision to Tea Areas Slater Wilson in the third place match.
Dylan Reynolds finished in fourth place in the 285-pound weight class. He pinned Milbanks Oliver Korth in 5:42 in the quarterfinals before getting pinned by Tea Areas Chase DeBoer in 2:34 in the semifinals. In the consolation semifinals Reynolds won a 1-0 decision over Noah Duran of Sioux Falls Jefferson and then he lost a 1-0 decision to OGormans Daniel Vaasquez in the third place match.
The state tournament begins on Thursday in Rapid City.
