HAYTI Owen Vandeweerd was the lone state qualifier for Sioux Valley over the weekend at the Region 1B Tournament at Hamlin High School.
The state tournament is in Rapid City, beginning Thursday.
Vandeweerd came in third place in the 285-pound weight class. In the quarterfinals Vandeweerd pinned Tytian Lauseng of Deuel/Deubrook Area in 3:45 before getting pinned by Faulkton Areas Lincoln Dikoff in 1:23 in the semifinals. In the consolation semifinals he won a 4-1 decision over Redfields Dalton Rathjen and then won a 2-1 decision over Gavin Englund of Groton Area in the third-place match.
