DEADWOOD Statistics released Friday from the South Dakota Commission on Gaming shows Deadwoods January gaming handle was down slightly at -1.52% compared to January 2024.
Slot numbers were down 2.25% from 2024, while table games increased 8.48% and sports wagering saw an increase of 17.97%.
Operators contributed $1,948,969.85 in “free play” to customers in January, bringing the taxable gross revenues for the month to $10,068,082.01. T
The month also saw $906,127.38 collected in gaming tax, with $100,680.82 going to the state general fund, $322,178.62 to South Dakota Tourism and $80,544.66 to Lawrence County.
We had some rough days in January with weather and bitter cold, especially on the weekends, said DGA Executive Director George Milos. We started January of last year down slightly as well and still finished the year up overall, so we are optimistic for a robust 2025. With strong marketing and an impressive lineup of special events on tap, Deadwood is poised for a good year.
