Carol Jean Van Hoepen, 81, of Volga, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, at Riverview Healthcare Center in Flandreau, SD.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, at First Reformed Church in Volga. A visitation will be held the night prior from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at the Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga, SD.
Carol Jean Van Hoepen was born on Dec. 27, 1943, in Volga, SD, the daughter of John and Nellie (Post) Wilson.
Carol received her education in rural school in Brookings County, SD and attended Volga High School. She was united in marriage to Harold Van Hoepen on Dec. 8, 1962, in Volga, SD. Carol was employed at South Dakota State University from 1973 until her retirement on Dec. 31, 2007.
Carol was an active member of First Reformed Church in Volga, SD. In her earlier years, while working for SDSU still, Carol enjoyed caring for the SDSU athletes. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, Hope and Cole especially picking them up from school when they were younger.
Carols favorite pass time was reading, painting, listening to music, and watching birds and squirrels out the window.
Carol is survived by her husband, Harold; two children, Allen (Jody) Van Hoepen and Terry Van Hoepen; two grandchildren, Hope and Cole; four siblings, Robert (Margaret) Wilson, Dorothy (Greg) Van Maanen, Kevin (Deanna) Wilson and Keith Wilson and many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nellie (Post) Wilson and two brothers, Donald and Gary.
