BROOKINGS The Brookings boys basketball team came up short in search of its first win of the season on Friday night as the Bobcats fell to Aberdeen Central 68-58 at Bob Jostad Gymnasium.
Brookings trailed 16-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats would outscore the Golden Eagles 17-16 in the second quarter and were down 32-29.
Brodie McCarty scored to open the second half for the Bobcats but then the Golden Eagles went on a 7-0 run to go up 39-32. Brookings then trailed 43-36 and scored six-straight points to make it 43-42 with 1:24 left in the third quarter. However, Aberdeen Central answered with another 7-0 run and took a 50-42 lead into the fourth.
The Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 52-42 14 seconds into the fourth but then the Bobcats went on a 9-0 run to make it a one-point game with 5:54 to go. The two teams then traded 5-0 runs to make it 57-56 with 4:07 to play. The Golden Eagles then led 60-58 and outscored Brookings 8-0 in the final 2:57 of the game.
The Bobcats shot 42.9% from the field and were 5-of-20 from three. They were led by Bergan Tetzlaff who had 20 points and 12 rebounds. McCarty had 19 points. Jase Bauer had 10 points.
Aberdeen Central shot 43.6% from the field and was 7-of-24 from three. Luke Swanson had 17 points to lead the Golden Eagles. Brendan Phillips had 12 points and six rebounds. Michael Dutenhoffer had 11 points.
The Bobcats had 31 rebounds and the Golden Eagles had 30. Brookings had 23 turnovers and Aberdeen had 23. The Bobcats were 17-of-23 at the free throw line and the Golden Eagles were 13-of-20.
The Bobcats are now 0-18 and will play their final two games of the season this upcoming weekend. Both games will be at home as theyll host Douglas on Friday at 8 p.m. and Spearfish on Saturday at 4 p.m.
